The United States Virgin Islands is an unincorporated territory of the United States. Our common law and statutory laws are fully compatible with the legal systems in the 50 states. The Virgin Islands judicial system is similar to those in the United States, with a local Superior Court of general jurisdiction, the Virgin Islands Supreme Court, and the District Court of the Virgin Islands which has the same subject matter jurisdiction as all federal District Courts. Except as otherwise provided by statute, all courts are governed by the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure and the Federal Rules of Evidence.
